St. Kjeld’s Life and Miracles

This painting depicts the miraculous St. Kjeld, also known as Kjeld from Viborg. Rendered in warm colors, the artwork presents Kjeld as a spiritual and enlightened man. He plays a horn, accompanied by an angel who supports him in all that Kjeld does. The horn symbolizes Kjeld’s cheerful and generous nature, open to all. The angel plays a lute, which in early Christianity represented Jesus Christ and His mercy.

In the background, landscapes of the city of Viborg are visible, showcasing its architecture and vibrant life. The painting may suggest St. Kjeld’s death in 1150, when his spiritual presence, alongside an angel, protects Viborg and its inhabitants.

This artwork honours St. Kjeld’s merciful life and the miracles that made him a saint. It is a tribute to his boundless generosity and the hope and healing he brought to many.
